Board Member
Albert Kasi is a cultural heritage expert, artist, and public administrator from Gjirokastër,
Albania, with over three decades of professional experience in cultural management,
local governance, and heritage preservation. Since 2014 up to 2018, he has served as
Director of the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Gjirokastër under the Ministry
of Culture, where he oversees the protection and promotion of one of Albania’s most
significant UNESCO World Heritage cities.
His career includes leadership roles in numerous national and international projects
supported by UNESCO, USAID, UNDP, and the Swiss Cooperation Office, focusing on
cultural tourism, community development, traditional arts, and decentralization. From
2000 to 2003, he served as Deputy Mayor of Gjirokastër, contributing decisively to the
city’s successful nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.
A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana, Albert Kasi is also an accomplished
sculptor with works displayed in Gjirokastër and at the National Art Gallery in Tirana.
Fluent in Albanian and English with working knowledge of Greek, he continues to
combine artistic practice with his commitment to safeguarding Albania’s cultural legacy.
Since 2011, he has been President of the Gjirokastra UNESCO Club.
