Emergency consolidation works of the Clock Tower in Krujë, Albania

The focus of this project is a post-earthquake restoration of Clock Tower and a Tekke of Dolma, both monuments are situated in the Castle of Kruja, monument of first category.

Regarding the works related to the Clock Tower, emergency stabilization of the tower has been conducted and finalized and the behaviour of the structure is being monitored through the digital crack monitoring system installed on-site. We have been working on the full conservation design project for the tower but before this phase can be implemented it is crucial to deal first with the consolidation of the hillside where the tower sits and which was badly damaged during the earthquake as well. The Ministry of Culture has prepared a project for the stabilization of the terrain of the whole Castle of Kruja and the consolidation of its surrounding walls, however, the rock under the Clock Tower needs more focused attention and more detailed geological surveys. Therefore, this project is ongoing with the purpose to finalize also these important next phases. Given the above, the initiation of the works for the full conservation of the Clock Tower will be postponed until there will be a clear picture of the situation of the rock.
