E KA KUSH E KA
The collection “E Ka Kush e Ka” seeks to include children and adults in a series of books and games through which they discover and rediscover cultural heritage as a bridge, linking us to the complexities of the world around us. Cultural heritage is not only about learning facts; it is an ideal educational and entertaining support for learning about and exploring new things, other people and our society.
The collection includes currently 22 booklets and games, presenting topics as diverse as the restoration of traditional houses and other prominent monuments, national costumes such as Xhubleta or Fustanella, iconography, or entire cultural areas presented through the help of the “Mos u Nxeh” board games.
CHwB Albania works with top-notch illustrators, educationalists and heritage professionals to set the highest standards for early age heritage education. Heritage Ateliers – public activities organized through the items of the collection – are carefully planned with local and central institutions to address the daily pedagogic and entertainment needs of children respectively at school, at home or in a cultural institution. One of the specific goals of the project is to provide children from marginalized communities better chances to access qualitative heritage education tools and activities.
Besides providing the children with a qualitative extracurricular learning experience, the ateliers provide on-the-job training opportunities for teachers and educators, considered as the best multipliers of the key messages about heritage education.
As a recognition for their innovative and qualitative approach the collection and the ateliers were included in 2018 in the “Bëjmë Detyrat e Shtëpisë” (“Let’s do homework”), a pilot program that was implemented in 20 different schools in Albania by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (MESY); in the same year the “Mos u Nxeh” sub-series of the collection (adapted to the cities of Gjirokastra, Shkodra, Korça, Tirana, Elbasan, Berat, Durrës and Pukë) has been awarded in 2018 the prestigious “European Heritage Stories” prize by the Council of Europe and the European Commission.
